Career Objective

As my academic journey has progressed, so have my career objectives. As an undergraduate, my goal was to work in the field of journalism, preferably doing investigative or narrative journalism from the Middle East. After entering into the master's program at ISU, my academic focused shifted from journalism to research. I am still interested in doing journalism, however, I believe that research and journalism can combine to give me a broader area to work within. After completing my MA in communication, I changed majors and entered in the anthropology program at Southern Illinois University as a PhD student. Because my academic goals have changed, my new career goals are to work in academia, while continuing my studies of Kurdish culture and identity, both in the diaspora and the Middle East.

There are almost no studies of Kurdish culture and identity, especially in the fields of anthropology and communication, thus my main goal is to introduce the study of Kurds in academia.
